Authorities are reworking their three-pronged plan to remove water hyacinth and water lettuce from the Vaal River.
This was after environmental activists raised the alarm over the use of broad-spectrum herbicide glyphosate to kill the invasive species.
The use of the toxic chemical has been banned in many countries around the world.
