After the delivery of her victim impact statement was postponed in a previous court sitting, media mogul Basetsana Kumalo did not hold back when she asked the court to consider direct imprisonment when it sentences convicted author and self-proclaimed social activist Jackie Phamotse later this month.
Kumalo said this when she and husband Romeo appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, with Phamotse in the dock. They are expected back in court on Tuesday 26 March, when senior prosecutor Yusuf Baba and the defence’s Mpho Mathonsi will present their closing arguments, and Phamotse will be sentenced.
“I do believe that if the accused is not sentenced to direct imprisonment, she will continue with her crimes against me and my family,” the former Top Billing producer said, as she delivered her victim impact statement.
