Busisa Jiya, the CEO of the Association for Savings and Investment SA (Asisa), is leaving the industry body to pursue other opportunities.
Asisa’s board of directors said in a statement on Wednesday that Jiya “will be leaving by mutual agreement at the end of December 2023”.
His resignation comes less than two years after he joined Asisa and about five months since he was appointed to the board of Transnet by Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan in early July.
“The board would like to thank Busisa for his contribution to transitioning Asisa into the next phase as Asisa celebrates 15 years of existence,” Asisa said.
The association is a non-profit company formed in 2008 to represent the savings, investment and insurance industry that contributes significantly to SA’s economy.

Jiya was appointed as CEO of Asisa on 1 February 2022 following the announcement of the retirement of the industry body’s previous head, Leon Campher, after 49 years in the savings and investment sector. Campher had stayed on for seven months to help ensure a smooth handover.
Anton Pillay, chair of Asisa, told News24 that Jiya’s replacement will be announced in the new year.
Jiha holds a Bachelor of Business Science from the University of Cape Town with majors in economics and actuarial science.
When he was first appointed by Asisa, the industry body said he started his career as an equity analyst in 1996 before moving on to various other senior roles, including as managing director of Absa Asset Management, senior country officer of Thomson Reuters (Africa) as well as acting CEO and principal officer of the Eskom Pension and Provident Fund (EPPF).
