South Africa’s men and women in blue are winning the fight against organised crime – at least according to their boss, Police Minister Bheki Cele.
On Friday, during the release of the third quarter crime statistics for October to December last year, Cele said four major drug busts, a decrease in cash-in-transit (CIT) heists and key construction mafia arrests were evidence that the police were making inroads in their fight against organised crime.
He said 46 cash-in-transit robberies were reported in the three-month period – 11 less than the same period in the previous year.
