UMvoti Municipality disconnected the electricity services at the South African Post Office (SAPO) two months ago after its failure to pay R18 000 in rent.
An inter-governmental dispute between the uMvoti Municipality and the collapsing SA Post Office’s failure to pay R18 000 in rent led to the non-payment of social grants for the elderly for two months.
An on-the-spot resolution was found to hire a generator – ironically alleged at the cost of R18 000 for two business days – on Monday after officials were cornered by an angry community.
However, when the generator is returned after payments are made on Tuesday, it will be the same song and dance of queues and non-payments for the pensioners.
