The South African Weather Service issued a Yellow Level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms, which could result in localised damage to settlements, property/vehicles, disruption of livelihood and livestock, and localised short-term disruption to power supply, over the south-east of the Northern Cape, the extreme south of the Free State, as well as the west and north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.

Impact-based warnings

A Yellow Level 2 warning was issued for damaging waves, resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea, between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas.

Gauteng will be partly cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB sunburn index is high.

Cloudy conditions, with drizzle and fog along the escarpment, is expected in Mpumalanga and Limpopo in the morning, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the Lowveld.

The North West can expect partly cloudy and warm conditions, with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the north-east.

Morning fog patches are expected in the extreme east of the Free State, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the south-west and extreme east.

Partly cloudy and cool to warm temperatures are expected in the Northern Cape, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, except in the extreme west.

It will be windy in the extreme south.

The wind along the coast will be a light to moderate southerly to south-easterly, becoming strong in the afternoon.

The Western Cape will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east and along the south coast.

Light morning rain is expected in the north-west.

The wind along the coast will be a light to moderate west to north-westerly, but strong to near gale force along the south coast.

It will become a moderate south-westerly in the afternoon along the south-west coast.

The expected UVB sunburn index is very high.

Cool conditions are expected in the western half of the Eastern Cape along the coast and adjacent interior, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers.

It will be cloudy in the south.

The wind along the coast will be a light to moderate south-westerly.

The eastern half of the province will be cool along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated along the Wild Coast.

It will be cloudy in the south-west.

The wind along the coast will be a light south-westerly, becoming light and variable.

KwaZulu-Natal will have fog in places over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the north-east, but scattered in the south-west.

It will be hot in places in the north-west.

The wind along the coast will be a moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly, but strong in places south of Cape St Lucia.
