Nine people were killed in a gun battle between police and 11 gunmen in Mariannhill, KwaZulu-Natal, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the nine people killed were among the 11 gunmen who started the shootout.
