Nigerian Army Celebrates 161st Anniversary, Supports Orphans and Needy in Zamfara

The 1 Brigade of the Nigerian Army commemorated the 161st anniversary of the Nigerian Army’s establishment by reaching out to orphans, the less privileged, and students in Zamfara State.

The Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2024 was marked with various humanitarian activities, including the distribution of medical consumables, writing materials, clothing, and footwear to beneficiaries across Zamfara State.

Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, the Brigade Commander, led the distribution of clothing materials to orphans  and the needy, underscoring the Nigerian Army’s commitment to Civil-Military Cooperation. This initiative is part of the Army’s ongoing efforts to support the civil community in various ways, promoting goodwill and strengthening relationships.

General Ahmed stated that the distribution reached approximately 400 orphans and needy individuals, alongside the provision of exercise books, pencils, and pens to students across 11 primary and secondary schools in the Gusau metropolitan area.

The Brigade Commander used the occasion to urge the civil community to discourage informants from aiding bandits by reporting military activities. Instead, he encouraged these elements to repent and surrender their arms to restore peace in the state.

Brigadier General Ahmed expressed his concern over bandit activities in the state, affirming that troops are working tirelessly to ensure that farmers can cultivate and harvest their crops smoothly, thereby ensuring food security and economic development. He appealed for public support and cooperation by providing the Army with vital information to help restore normalcy.

Earlier, medical consumables were distributed to 14 local government areas within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibilities, and customized exercise books were distributed to primary, junior, and senior secondary school students in 11 schools in Gusau.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the Nigerian Army for their support, chanting prayers and goodwill messages for the Army.
