NTSB graduates lauded

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Friday has congratulated the 34 graduates of the National Training School for Boys (NTSB) at the Jose Fabella Memorial School-Tanay Unit.

The graduates, all former juvenile delinquents, have finished their elementary and senior high school education at the NTSB.

“Congratulations to the 27 senior high school graduates and seven elementary school graduates from the NTSB. You serve as a testament to the miracles created by second chances,” Social Welfare and Development Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said.

“Despite the circumstances that you are in, you allowed yourselves to make the right choices that will shape a future that you are proud of,” she added.

Dumlao told the graduates that their achievements would serve as an inspiration for restorative justice in the Philippines.

Republic Act 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, mandates the comprehensive management of children in conflict with the law from prevention to rehabilitation and their reintegration to society.

A child in conflict with the law refers to a juvenile who was alleged as, accused of, or adjudged as, having committed an offense under Philippine laws.

The NTSB is a care facility run by DSWD that offers rehabilitation for juvenile delinquents in a residential environment for effective reintegration into their families and communities after release.
