MANILA, Philippines: Malacañang over the weekend gave assurances that thousands of farmers in Western Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula, and other regions affected by El Niño will be given aid.
Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary Joey Villarama said there are almost 4,000 farmers affected by the dry spell in these regions.
The government has been providing farmer heat-tolerant seeds, domestic animals and financial aid, among other things, the Task Force El Niño said.
“Apart from the direct interventions for them, we are also rehabilitating the irrigation canals and their equipment to further help the greatly-affected farmers,” Villarama said.
