PHILIPPINE boxer Nesthy Petecio vowed to atone for her early exit in the 19th Asian Games in the World Qualifying Tournaments next year, an alternate qualifying tilt for the Paris Olympics.
Petecio made the promise after receiving a comforting message from Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines Chairman Ricky Vargas after her defeat on Friday.

“I have faith in you, Nesthy. You can do it if you set your mind to returning to the Olympics. You’ve proven that already. You can rebound when you put your mind to it. I am proud of what you have accomplished. This is just a bump, and [I’m] confident in what you still can do,” read Vargas’ message in Filipino.
Petecio’s bid to qualify anew for the Olympics through the Asian Games ended with her loss to Taiwanese Lin Yu Ting in the opener. Lin won against Petecio via a 4-1 decision at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium. It was a fitting revenge for the Taiwanese whom the Filipina defeated in the Round of 16 of the 54-57 kilograms women’s boxing final two years ago in Japan.
Petecio would now be preparing for the World Qualifying Tournaments early next year, one in Busto Arsizio in Italy from February 29 to March 12, and another in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 23 to June 3.
