Maritime equipment manufacturer Straatman has secured a contract to supply a ship-to-shore link system for Petronas’ third floating LNG project, or ZFLNG, offshore Sabah in Malaysia.

As part of its partnership with Samsung Heavy Industries, an EPCC contractor in the project, Straatman will supply its SafeCom ship-to-shore link system to facilitate communication between the ZFLNG facility and LNG carriers.

According to the supplier, the system is flexible and adaptable to customers’ specific requirements, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.

“The ZFLNG project, to be located offshore near Sabah in Malaysia, will be Pertronas’ third floating liquefied natural gas project. Our participation demonstrates our dedication to offering innovative solutions, using the latest industry-standard technologies, that improve the efficiency and safety during mooring activities at oil & gas terminals,” Straatman said.

In addition to being Petronas’ third floating LNG project, the ZFLNG is also the company’s first nearshore floating LNG facility project in Malaysia.

In early 2023, a consortium of JGC Corporation and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) was selected to deliver an engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) of the project. JGC’s main responsibilities will cover the engineering, procurement, and commissioning work for the floating LNG topside, the associated onshore facilities, as well as the management of the overall project. SHI will be responsible for the floating LNG hull EPC work and the modular fabrication of the topside.

Energy technology company Baker Hughes will deliver two LM9000-driven compressor trains for this project.

The facility will have a minimum production capacity of 2 million tonnes of LNG per annum and is scheduled for completion in 2027.
