PH Red Cross deploys response units to assist flood victims in NCR

MANILA, Philippines — Amid flooding due to continuous heavy rains from the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon “Carina,” the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) response teams were immediately deployed to assist displaced families in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The PRC has deployed vehicles and assets, including 6×6 multi-purpose response trucks to aid flood-troubled residents in Malabon.

Also, PRC’s emergency response unit (ERU) rescued stranded people in Addition Hills Village, Mandaluyong City.

“Be vigilant and prepared. In case of emergency, don’t hesitate to call us; dial hotline 143 for immediate assistance,” PRC Chairman and CEO Richard Gordon said.

The Red Cross distributed hot meals to over 440 displaced individuals from Isla Puting, Bato, and 649 village people in Manila who are currently sheltered in the Delpan and Baseco evacuation centers on Tuesday.

Reports said typhoon “Carina” has intensified and was bringing heavy rains and gusty winds to extreme Northern Luzon, prompting storm alerts.

Moving northwestward at 25 kilometers per hour (kph), the typhoon is also enhancing the southwest monsoon, causing moderate to intense rainfall across western Luzon and Metro Manila.

Also, the PRC has remained on high alert for relief operations nationwide and encourages the public to call hotline 143 for emergency assistance.
