President wants to keep his 3rd SONA brief

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said he was having a hard time figuring out how to fit everything he wanted to convey during his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 22 in just one hour.

In a media interview on the sidelines of the official impounding process ceremony of the Upper Wawa Dam in Montalban, Rizal, the Chief Executive said he would detail how the government is performing when it comes to further ramping up the economy, addressing criminality, eliminating illegal drugs, and responding to other threats facing the country.

“We will also report on the state of the nation in the sense [of] what are the lives of our people, how are they doing? The economy, how is it doing? Criminality, how are we doing on that? How are we doing in the other… social problems that we are facing such as drugs, such as the different threats that have been coming to us,” he told reporters.

“There are many issues we need to talk about. And we will really report that to the nation,” he added.

“What we did is we made a brief; it’s quite thick, which is a report to the nation, which goes into the detail. The detail that I cannot go into during the SONA because it would be too long,” he said.

“That’s why we’ll provide that, too, of course, to the media and to all our other partners — the private sector, the public sector, even in schools. So that the people would know what we have been doing and if all those we have promised are really being fulfilled,” he added.

The SONA is an annual address by the President to a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives. It is held every fourth Monday of July.
