Prince William and Kate Middleton commemorate International Women’s Day with post to celebrate the ‘impact of amazing women’ they met over past 12 months

The Prince and Princess of Wales have shared a series of photos celebrating the ‘impact of amazing women’ to commemorate International Women’s Day.

Taking to their social media account on X, William and Kate have collated a gallery of inspiring individuals they’ve met in the past 12 months, including suicide prevention champion Emma Webb, Wimbledon organiser Sarah Goldson and Bianca Sakol, the founder and CEO of a baby bank.

The caption read: ‘Happy International Women’s Day! Celebrating the impact of amazing women today, and every day.

‘Here are just a few of the brilliant women we’ve been inspired by over the past 12 months. #IWD2024.’

The thread featured 13 photos of women-led groups and initiatives that inspired the royals.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have shared a series of photos celebrating the ‘impact of amazing women’ to commemorate International Women’s Day

The first photo features Emma Webb, who set up a suicide prevention campaign after her daughter Brodie’s death.

‘Brodie was a talented equestrian, which is what inspired @thewebstermwebb’s challenge pulling a life-size resin horse 160 miles from Chepstow to London,’ the X post added, with a snap of William grinning at Emma.

In December, the Prince surprised Emma while she was on the charity walk in memory of her late daughter.

In a video posted to Facebook, she can be seen in total shock as he appears out of nowhere to join her on day 13 of a fundraising trek from Wales to London.

While pulling a life-size horse statue along a pavement near Slough – and oblivious to the future king’s presence behind her – the prince casually strolls towards her and shouts ‘boo’ before embracing her in a warm hug.

Emma told the Mail: ‘He put his arms out and I thought ‘right, I’m going to have a nice hug’ so he gave me a nice hug, or a Welsh cwtch!’

The second post was dedicated to Sarah Goldson, who has directed the Ball Boy and Girl training since the 2012 Championships.

A smiling Kate was seen chatting to the woman and shaking her hand in the photo.

Next was a snap of the Prince of Wales speaking at the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit in New York in September – as he answered ‘tough’ questions from Vaitea Cowan, who co-founded Enapter and is the 2021 Earthshot prize winner

Actress Emilia Clarke and her mother Jennifer, who last month were awarded MBEs for their brain charity work as co-founders of SameYou – a charity that supports better recovery treatment for survivors of brain injury and stroke – were also pictured

The snap is from the Princess’s June visit, where she also managed to get a shot past Roger Federer on the No3 Court.

During their visit, the VIPs also joined the ball boys and girls in training for that year’s tournament.

Kate told those being put through their paces: ‘With all the discipline and everything you’ve learned, you’ll be able to take it into so many other parts of your life; things like confidence and that feeling of pride with being on any of the courts is such a big moment.’

Sarah, who manages Wimbledon’s ball boys and girls, said: ‘We’re proud of the young people who dedicate so much time and effort to their role which plays an integral part in delivering successful championships.’

Another woman commemorated in the list was Dr Gubby Ayida, who has been the CEO of Evelina London Children’s Hospital since May

Another photo featured in the post saw Prince William with a smiling Wendy Simm, who ‘was born and raised in Moss Side, Manchester and founded “Keeping It Real 24/7″‘

A selfie of of British army officer Harpreet ‘Preet’ Chandi – known as ‘Polar Preet’ – was also featured

The thread also highlights the work of Bianca Sakol, who is the founder and CEO of Sebby’s Corner – which Kate visited in November.

Sebby’s Corner was formed in January 2021 and provides items to families in need across Barnet, Hertfordshire and London.

Families are referred by a large network of partners, including midwives, health visitors and teachers.

Since opening, Sebby’s Corner has supported over 5,000 families and has seen a year-on-year increase in referrals.

Powered by local communities, baby banks provide a vital lifeline for families in all sorts of challenging circumstances.

During her visit, the Princess heard about the crucial work baby banks do across the UK to get essential items to families, including clothing, nappies, toiletries and baby equipment.

Actress Emilia Clarke and her mother Jennifer, who last month were awarded MBEs for their brain charity work as co-founders of SameYou – a charity that supports better recovery treatment for survivors of brain injury and stroke – were also pictured.

Another woman commemorated in the list was Dr Gubby Ayida, who has been the CEO of Evelina London Children’s Hospital since May.

Kate visited there in December, and saw the hospital’s new unit. The new facility, which cost £55million to build, allows children to be treated in one location on the same day, reducing the stress caused by numerous hospital visits.

Other photos also celebrated Barbara Smith, a psychotherapist working with the British Red Cross and offering ‘psychosocial support in disaster and war zones, aiding those in trauma’

Prince William pictured with England Women’s Head Coach Sarina Weigman – who the royals celebrated in their post

It will help the hospital treat a further 2,300 children per year, on top of the 104,000 children and young people treated by Evelina London, the children’s wing of Guy’s and St Thomas’s hospital.

The unit has two new operating theatres for simple operations such as tonsil removal and bladder surgery.

The Princess walked the same route as the children visiting the centre, including rooms offering pre-surgery checks, operation theatres and recovering areas.

Dr Ayida said afterwards: ‘With everything happening with the NHS at the moment, including long backlogs, the Princess’s visit has brought a feel-good factor to every room she visited and to all the staff.

‘It’s really special, the staff work so hard. The visit has lifted the whole place. It’s more than just ribbon-cutting. It’s been a privilege to welcome her here.’

The post also commemorated Prince William’s recent meeting with Holocaust survivor Renee Salt – who was born Zdunska Wola, Poland in 1929 and ‘has spoken to thousands of young people as part of @HolocaustUK’s programmes’

Both William and Kate were pictured in a snap with Professor Uzo Iwobi, who founded Race Council Cymru ‘to boost art, heritage, and culture for minority groups in Wales’

The last post in the thread read: ‘In 2024, @hmsoardacious will be represented by Team Valkyrie, the first all-serving women’s military team to row across the Atlantic’

Another photo featured in the post saw Prince William with a smiling Wendy Simm, who ‘was born and raised in Moss Side, Manchester and founded “Keeping It Real 24/7″‘.

The post added: ‘The food bank focuses on delivering culturally important foods to those in need, such as yams and sweet potatoes, which generally are not provided by other food banks.’

A selfie of of British army officer Harpreet ‘Preet’ Chandi – known as ‘Polar Preet’ – was also featured.

She in December broke her third World Record by becoming the fastest woman to reach the South Pole by braving minus 50 temperatures as she skied 700 miles in 31 days.

Having secured her place in the record books, Preet has been showered with praise and awards including being recently named Woman of the Year at the recent Women in Defence Awards 2022.

The Princess of Wales in 2022 became the patron of the Army officer’s expedition to be the first woman to cross all of Antarctica on her own.

On the Prince and Princess of Wales’s joint Instagram account, the couple confirmed the patronage and said Kate was ‘proud’ to be patron.

Other photos also celebrated Barbara Smith, a psychotherapist working with the British Red Cross and offering ‘psychosocial support in disaster and war zones, aiding those in trauma’ and England Women’s Head Coach Sarina Weigman.

The post also commemorated Prince William’s recent meeting with Holocaust survivor Renee Salt – who was born Zdunska Wola, Poland in 1929 and ‘has spoken to thousands of young people as part of @HolocaustUK’s programmes’.

Both William and Kate were pictured in a snap with Professor Uzo Iwobi, who founded Race Council Cymru ‘to boost art, heritage, and culture for minority groups in Wales’.

The post added that she ’empowers African Caribbean elders through learning initiatives and mentors young people to fulfil their aspirations’.

The last post in the thread read: ‘In 2024, @hmsoardacious will be represented by Team Valkyrie, the first all-serving women’s military team to row across the Atlantic. The @toughestrow challenge raises money for military charities and organisations that support veterans and their families.’
