Orlando Pirates have already made moves to refresh their forwards department, with two strikers shown the door.
Last week, Pirates released six players, with two of those being strikers who were largely rumoured to be exiting.
Souaibou Marou, Fortune Makaringe, Kermit Erasmus, Richard Ofori, Thabang Monare and Siyabonga Mpontshane were all released by Pirates. Those being players who have seen their deals at expire at the club, therefore management deeming them surplus to requirements. There are still players who are under contract who could be loaned out, sold or see their deals terminated at the Houghton-based outfit.
Lepasa next to depart?
One of the players that could still see themselves leaving the club, however, is striker Zakhele Lepasa. Despite a promising start that saw the Bafana Bafana international race to 10 goals, he again fell out of favour at Pirates. Just like the previous season, where he was loaned out to SuperSport United, he hardly played again for the club at the turn of the year. With that being said, it was believed that the writing is on the wall for him.
A player that Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos clearly believes, Lepasa was taken to Afcon despite a lack of fitness and games. He contributed to the team reaching the semifinals and winning the bronze medal in Ivory Coast. It was believed that was going to help his situation at Pirates. But instead it was returning striker Tshegofatso Mabasa, however, in a move that the fan base cannot complain about.
Now where does that leave Lepasa and Pirates next season? Well according to iDiski Times Cape Town City have entered the race for his signature.
Cape Town City interested in signing him?
“It’s believed that John Comitis is keeping a close eye on Zakhele Lepasa’s situation at Orlando Pirates. The club has earmarked the 27-year-old as the ideal striker for Eric Tinkler’s side in 2024/25.” Wrote the publication.
Pirates fans, would you like to see Lepasa stay? Or should he move on to Cape Town City?
