PTI Nominates Omar Ayub for Prime Minister’s Slot

In the midst of mounting political uncertainty and a race among political parties to secure government formation in Pakistan, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated former minister Omar Ayub Khan for the position of prime minister. This decision was announced by former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser, who stated that Omar Ayub Khan has been chosen as the party’s candidate for the premier’s position.

Qaiser also mentioned that he has been tasked with reaching out to other political parties to discuss the formation of the government. The PTI intends to engage with parties like the Awami National Party (ANP), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), and others in this regard.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the 2024 elections, Qaiser criticized them as the worst in Pakistan’s history, alleging widespread rigging and asserting that the world does not accept the results. He mentioned that PTI founder Imran Khan would announce a date for a protest against the alleged rigging.

This development follows the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) naming Shehbaz Sharif as its candidate for the prime minister’s office a few days prior. Reports also indicate that PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz is being considered for the position of Punjab chief minister.

The final decision on the unanimous candidate for the prime minister’s office will be made after consultations among allied parties. PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif has reportedly approved the nominations of both Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.

According to provisional results, independent candidates have secured the most seats in the National Assembly, followed by the PML-N. The PML-N is currently working to form a coalition government by enticing the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and other political parties to join forces.
