LOS ANGELES — Rapper Killer Mike was led out of the Grammys in handcuffs and arrested on Sunday following a confrontation during the pre-televised portion of the awards show, authorities said.
The Los Angeles Police Department said a man was detained Sunday afternoon in connection with a “physical altercation” and taken to Central Division, the department said on X.
Police identified the man as Michael Render, which is Killer Mike’s real name.
In the LAPD post, police said the altercation occurred in the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court, which is where Crypto.com Arena is located.
He was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor battery, police said. The artist was released on his own recognizance at about 8:37 p.m. PST with a Feb. 29 court date, jail records showed.
Additional details about the alleged altercation have not been released.
Earlier in the afternoon, Killer Mike won three Grammy awards at the pre-show Premiere Ceremony, for best rap performance, best rap song and best rap album.
Representatives for Killer Mike and for the Grammys did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
