Reader letter: Battery plant agreement will be costly for taxpayers

I had to laugh at the recent Windsor Star headline regarding the Stellantis deal: “Agreement ensures thousands of new jobs” in reference to the new battery plant.

Billions of dollars likely to be paid by my grandchildren will be borrowed to finance government “green” fantasies that I feel are neither green nor practical.

If one uses the Volkswagen deal as a yardstick, the cost of each job created by my math equals $4.3 million.

Assuming an annual wage of $70,000 per year it will take 69 years of employment, per worker, before this investment pays dividends.

Is it any wonder Canada is moving closer to financial collapse?
