MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna on Wednesday urged former Manila mayor Isko Moreno to reconsider plans to run against her next year for the mayoralty of the capital city.
Lacuna, who was Moreno’s vice mayor, issued the statement after the former mayor shared two videos showing Manileños shouting for his comeback.
In a statement posted on her Facebook page on Wednesday, Lacuna expressed her respect for Moreno’s decision but emphasized that he still has time to reassess his plans.

“I am giving my dear brother, former Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, time to reconsider his plans. He still has time to reflect on his decision. As his Ate in public service, I am here to guide him,” said Lacuna, who is seeking re-election next year.

In a District Five gathering attended by four councilors, Moreno said friendships end when the welfare of the people is at stake.
Moreno, who fared poorly when he ran for president in 2022, said on a Facebook post that he loved the people of Manila, that God has mercy — and that time will tell.
Lacuna said during the last campaign, Moreno and Manileños placed their trust in her as the first female mayor of Manila. Hence, she acknowledged that the upcoming election in Manila will be a test for Manileños to weigh her character, leadership, service, and vision for the city.
Lacuna said they are not there for personal ambition but for the welfare of Manileños.
“Despite any political circumstances, I remain Ate Honey to Isko because, in Manila, love of family endures,” she said.
Moreno, who started in show business, was initially elected as a city councilor in 1998, serving three consecutive three-year terms, and as a vice mayor for three terms as well.
In 2016, he ran for the Senate and lost. He was elected mayor of Manila in 2019 but decided to run for president in 2021.
