“Our guys never quit all night long and obviously at the end of the day it’s about winning but we are playing the right way over the last couple games,” said Pats assistant coach Ken Schneider. “You just have to keep preaching to your players that if you play the right way and if you play with the process that we have in place, that eventually things are going to start to work out way.
“But when you don’t play the right way, like in Medicine Hat, you see what can happen.”
On Friday, the Pats held a 2-0 lead over the last-place Oil Kings (7-16-1) but gave up four goals in the final eight minutes of the third period in the 4-2 defeat. Logan Peskett scored his first goal in a Pats uniform while Tanner Howe scored the other goal for Regina.
Edmonton outshot Regina 37-29 with Ewan Huet making 33 saves in the loss.
On Saturday, the Pats held a 1-0 lead as Brayden Barnett opened the scoring but the Rebels tied the game before the first period was up. In the second, Red Deer scored two more to take a 3-1 lead. Sam Oremba would get one back for Regina but that’s as close as they would get, as Regina lost their eighth straight game on the road.
Red Deer (10-9-3) outshot the Pats 38-25, with Kelton Pyne making 35 stops in the loss.
Regina will now conclude their five-game road trip on Friday in Brandon against the Wheat Kings (10-11-5) before returning home on Saturday to host the Swift Current Broncos (12-10-1) in the annual Teddy Bear Toss game.
