Repeat violent sexual offender released: Edmonton police

A repeat violent sexual offender has been released into the community, the Edmonton Police Service warned Thursday.

Alexandre Passechnikov, 38, has victimized a number of women within a broad age range from “young adults to the elderly,” and there are reasonable grounds to believe he will offend again, the EPS said in a news release.

In March 2016, Passechnikov pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated sexual assault, choking to overcome resistance and breach of probation conditions after admitting he tried to rape a 64-year-old woman on Jasper Avenue.

On Oct. 24, 2022, he was released from jail under a number of court conditions and police subsequently notified the community of his presence in the community.

Three days later, Passechnikov was arrested by police after he allegedly assaulted a woman who entered the rooming house he was living in, and was charged with assault, choking, forcible confinement and three breaches of a peace bond.

Passechnikov is described as six-foot-one and 185 pounds with blue eyes and greying dark brown hair. The EPS cautions citizens not to approach him.

The “intent of this process is to enable citizens to take suitable precautionary measures,” the release reads. “Anyone with any information about any potential breaches of these conditions by Passechnikov can contact the EPS at 780-423-4567.”

He must live at a residence approved by his supervisor and must not change that address until he has received written approval from his supervisor.He must abide by a curfew of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily unless a varied time is approved in writing by his supervisor.He must not travel out of the City of Edmonton without written approval of his supervisor.He must not be in possession of weapons of any kind, including knives (except in his residence or at a restaurant, for the sole purpose of consuming a meal), bear spray or dog spray, firearms, ammunition, explosive material, or any weapons whether homemade or otherwise.He must not consume alcohol, illegal drugs or intoxicating substances.
