NEW DELHI: Rohit Sharma continues to showcase his batting prowess in the World Cup with the Indian skipper becoming the first batter from the country to hit 50 sixes in a calendar year in ODIs.

Overall, he is the third batter to smash fifty ODI sixes in a calendar year after former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers (58 sixes in 2015) and explosive West Indies opener Chris Gayle (56 sixes in 2019).
Rohit now has 53 sixes to his name after he scored 46 off 40 balls studded with four sixes and as many fours.
With four league matches remaining in the tournament, Rohit stands a chance to own the record of becoming the highest six hitter in a calendar year.
When it comes to most sixes in ODI World Cups, Rohit has overtaken de Villiers, who had 37 sixes, and is now second in the list, with Gayle leading the pack with 49 sixes to his name.
Earlier, Rohit had become the third batter overall to smash 300 sixes in one-day internationals. He attained the remarkable feat during the high voltage match against Pakistan when he tonked Haris Rauf over mid-on for his 300th six in Ahmedabad On October 14.
In the match against Afghanistan, Rohit went past Gayle (553 sixes across formats) to record most sixes in international cricket across formats.
