Rovco has been selected to conduct site characterization operations on the Green Volt floating offshore wind farm project in Scotland.
UK-based company will focus on geophysical surveys in the offshore wind farm array area, offshore and nearshore export cable corridors, shallow Piezocone Penetration Test (PCPT), and vibrocoring.
Rovco’s DP2 survey vessel Glomar Supporter will begin its geophysical operations at the wind farm located 80 kilometers east of Peterhead this month.
The geophysical surveys carried out are said to be key in informing the anchor design for the floating wind turbines.
Developed by joint venture partners, Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn, the Green Volt floating offshore wind farm has the potential to generate enough green power to electrify several oil and gas platforms in the Outer Moray Firth (OWF) area with 560 MW capacity.
Recently, the project received all its planning approvals and remains on track to be the first commercial-scale floating offshore wind farm in Europe.
Green Volt Is planned to feature up to 35 floating wind turbines and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by one million tonnes per annum.
The wind farm is scheduled to deliver its first power in 2029.
Back in 2023, Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn secured a lease for two floating offshore wind projects in Crown Estate Scotland’s Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas (INTOG) round.
That same year, the developers signed exclusivity agreements for the Green Volt and Cenos floating offshore wind projects.
In November, Rovco unveiled that the company completed all survey work on behalf of Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn for the planned Cenos project.
