Panaji: After Union govt sanctioned a
Rs 100 crore grant
to
Goa University
six months ago to upgrade it to a multi-disciplinary education and research university (MERU), GU vice-chancellor Harilal B Menon said on Monday that with the grants a number of new programmes like
BE in bioengineering
and biomedical engineering and integrated programmes in various masters courses will be introduced.
“A raft of courses are envisaged to be initiated on campus under the auspices of the
MERU initiative
, which include BE in bioengineering and biomedical engineering, computers and electronics, integrated MSc in economics, integrated MBA, integrated MSc in physics and biology, BPEd and MPEd programmes, besides certificate courses in Sanskrit and ayurvedic studies,” said the vice chancellor, speaking at the 35th convocation ceremony of Goa University.
As per the university’s detailed project report submitted to Union govt, Menon said that several new infrastructural facilities will be created.
He said that a soft component audio, video, and multimedia language laboratory will be created, besides a high-performance computing facility, RFID tags for the library, and items for green initiatives.
