Since coming to Regina in 2016, the Manitoba product has been a “driving force behind exciting creative projects, showcased countless musicians and led meaningful collaborations with artists of all types,” the RSO said in a media release.

As a leader in the arts and culture community, Gerrard also established his commitment to social responsibility by spearheading events like the Forward Currents Festival, which has featured multi-disciplinary programs on reconciliation, mental health and LGBTQ2S+ identity.

Gerrard’s talents have placed him in high demand, serving as a guest conductor across Canada in addition to his new role as artistic director of City Opera Vancouver.

Under his guidance, the RSO has weathered significant financial hurdles since the COVID pandemic while working to ensure a stable future for the 100-year-old organization.

“Without a doubt, the RSO is on an upward trajectory now, and it remains a great privilege to lead the orchestra into our next phase,” Gerrard said in the release. “Thanks to our dedicated musicians, the orchestra continues to sound as good as it ever has, and I’m grateful for the support I continue to be offered from the musicians, staff and board of directors.

“I’m looking forward to two more seasons of inspiring projects, great music making and bringing our community together.”

The RSO concludes the 2023-24 season with three major shows at the Conexus Arts Centre: Brahms’ Third Symphony on Saturday, a tribute to pop-rock band Chicago on May 4, and Beethoven’s Emperor Piano Concerto on May 11.

Tickets are available through the Conexus box office as well as online at reginasymphony.com or by calling 306-586-9555.
