Sanam Javed case: Punjab govt approaches SC to challenge LHC verdict

The Punjab government has escalated its challenge to the Supreme Court against the Lahore High Court’s decision to discharge Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sanam Javed from a Gujranwala case.

This appeal, spearheaded by Maryam Nawaz, aims to overturn the ruling issued by a two-member bench led by Justice Asjad Ghural.

Earlier, the Lahore High Court had ordered the release of Sanam Javed, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to support the charges linked to the events of May 9.

Despite her release, Javed was promptly re-arrested in connection with other cases filed in multiple cities.

Sanam Javed had initially been detained in Lahore, facing numerous allegations arising from various incidents on May 9. Following the High Court’s ruling, the Islamabad High Court also intervened, blocking her transfer to Quetta police custody and ordering her release.

The Punjab government contends that the High Court’s decision to discharge Javed was premature and seeks a review by the Supreme Court to ensure a comprehensive examination of the charges against her.

This appeal highlights the ongoing legal battles faced by PTI leaders amid the current political climate.

The forthcoming decision by the Supreme Court will determine whether the High Court’s ruling stands or is overturned, potentially influencing the broader legal framework for political cases in Pakistan.
