Savory saves Harpy Eagles against Scorpions

Kemol Savory emerged as the saviour for the Guyana Harpy Eagles, steering them from the brink of collapse with an unbeaten century against the Jamaica Scorpions on day one of their West Indies championship clash at Sabina Park.

Facing a daunting task after being put in to bat, Harpy Eagles found themselves in dire straits at 61 for six early, however, Savory rose to the occasion with a career-best innings of 127 not out off 251 deliveries to lead the Harpy Eagles to 278 for seven at stumps.

The left-hander’s effort was bolstered by a crucial 127-run partnership with Gudakesh Motie, who contributed a valuable 56 runs from 86 balls.

Captain Tevin Imlach stood firm alongside Savory, after his 33 not out, with the duo adding 90 runs for the unbroken eighth wicket.

Reflecting on his performance, Savoury expressed satisfaction in his ability to rescue Harpy Eagle’s innings under pressure.

“I believed I read the situation well and decided to stay at the crease and accumulate some runs. It is amazing to score runs under pressure and I want to continue doing what I do best, and that is to bat,” Savoury said.

Ojay Shields wreaked havoc with the new ball, dismissing both openers cheaply, and Harpy Eagles gradually turned the tide in their favour. Shields claimed three wickets, while off-spinner Peat Salmon has picked up two wickets so far, and Derval Green and Abhijai Mansingh one wicket each.
