A number of local retirement homes set out this month to spread holiday cheer by hosting their annual food drives.
Several Windsor-Essex County locations belonging to Seasons Retirement Communities — which operates 13 retirement residences across Ontario — exceeded their targets this year to donate to local food banks.

“The annual Holiday Food Drive is a cherished tradition that allows us to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who may be struggling. We are grateful for the overwhelming support from our residents, their families, and our dedicated staff.
“Together, we can brighten the holiday season for our neighbours in need.”
Well surpassing last year’s 75-pound record of non-perishable items, Belle River Seasons Retirement Home collected a total of 106 pounds this year, to be donated to its local partner, the Community Support Centre’s pantry.
Seasons Amherstburg donated 185 pounds of non-perishables to the Amherstburg Food Bank — up from 135 pounds collected last year.
A 600-pound donation was made to St. Andrews LaSalle Community Food Bank by Seasons Royal Oak Village, which more than doubled last year’s 275-pound offering.
Company-wide, Seasons has donated more than a quarter of a million dollars in funds and food to local food banks since 2016.
As per a news release, Seasons took into account reports by Food Banks Canada, revealing that the average meal weighs around one pound.
Based on that metric, the retirement community’s effort resulted in more than 3,000 meals provided to individuals and families in need.
