Thoughtfully signed by the Spanish King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, and their two children, the Spanish Royal Household has issued a traditional Christmas card greeting with a sweet message.
In a nod to a monumental event for the family and country, the photo chosen was taken on the day of the swearing-in of Princess Leonor, 18, the heir to the throne.
The Princess’s sister, Infanta Sofía of Spain, 16, was also pictured standing next to her sister and her father in the Christmas card.
The photo chosen was originally taken in the gallery of the Royal Palace in Madrid on October 31, when Princess Leonor turned 18 and took the oath of allegiance to the Constitution.

Signed by the four royals, the greeting reads the same phrase in Spanish and English: “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2024” with a handwritten phrase “We wish it with all our affection”.
In last year’s Christmas message (2022), the King and Queen of Spain gave the leading role to their daughters. The two sisters were pictured alone in the garden of Zarzuela Palace. The palace is the residence and working office of the reigning monarch of Spain.
This year, the four were seen smiling on the significant occasion when Princess Leonor, the future Queen of Spain, asked the Spanish people to place their trust in her.
In October this year, she pledged to faithfully carry out her duties, uphold the constitution and the laws, and respect the rights of citizens. It is the same oath, her father, King Felipe VI uttered 37 years ago. She has since carried out official duties with her family, including the opening of Spain’s new legislative session.

The Queen of Spain wore a blue Carolina Herrera dress, with French sleeves and sequinned flowers on the shoulders. Princess Leonor wore a white suit by Sastrería Serna, and Princess Sofía wore a floral dress with a cape by Erdem.
The Royal Household of Spain has also issued another Christmas greeting from King Felipe’s parents, Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía. The card reads “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2024” and is illustrated with the image of the ‘Adoration of the Shepherds’, painted by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo in 1650.
As reported in Hello! Spain, this Christmas greeting is displayed in the Prado Museum in Madrid.
