Police on Thursday said they will implement special traffic arrangements on National Day to cater for crowds that are expected to flock to both sides of the Victoria Harbour to watch the fireworks display.
The spectacle will be held at 9pm on October 1 for about 23 minutes, and officials had said they expect the event to attract around 100,000 spectators.
The force said roads along the harbour in areas like Tsim Sha Tsui and West Kowloon, as well as in Central and North Point, will be closed in phases from 7pm.
In Tsim Sha Tsui, for example, parts of Salisbury Road, Chatham Road South, Canton Road and Nathan Road will be closed from 7pm. Three exits of the Central-Wan Chai Bypass will be blocked off from 7.30pm, and parts of the Island Eastern Corridor will be closed from 8.55pm.
“All the traffic arrangements are to facilitate the public to access these spots to view the fireworks, so we encourage the public to come out to enjoy the festival. We will try our best to facilitate the whole event,” superintendent Lam Chi-hang said.
Lam urged those who plan on watching the fireworks display to take public transport.
