MUMBAI. – Reeza Hendricks, now quintessentially the Proteas’ perfect stand-in, literally didn’t know he was going to play here at the Wankhede Stadium against England until five minutes before the toss.

The elegant right-hander, who laid the platform for South Africa’s immense batting performance with a silky 75-ball 85, made the admission after he was roped in to open the batting following Temba Bavuma’s withdrawal with a stomach problem.
