The St. Ann police say they have implemented strategies to reduce traffic congestion which may arise due to entertainment events during the Emancipation and Independence holidays.
The St. Ann Municipal Corporation says it has approved a large number of applications for events during the holiday period.
Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, head of the St. Ann Police Division, says traffic management will be paramount during the period.
“We especially are mindful of the need for those persons who are not so engaged in these parties to move about in a free way. So we…continue to work with our partners from traffic headquarters, PSTEB, to see how best we can get that kind of assistance to assist us, to police the main corridor between Ocho Rios and Pear Tree Bottom in Discovery Day.”
“We’re putting a lot of attention on road policing, whilst we’ll be trying to use our off-duty persons to assist with maintenance of law and order at these venues where these events will be held,” he suggested.
SSP Powell urged the motoring public, especially those going to the airport, to allow themselves enough travel time to reach their destination as there could be some delays due to traffic.
“Factor a little bit of travel time because the sheer volume of traffic, even on good times, that we are seeing on the main arterial road anywhere from Mammee Bay into Priory, it is unprecedented, especially in the holiday period, even when there is (sic) no events happening across the parish,” he warned.
