During a recent episode of the Choppin’ It Budha T Podcast, Rashid Kay asserted that Stogie T initially embarked on his artistic journey as a poet before making the transition to a rapper. Rashid also mentioned that Stogie T‘s stage name was initially Fat Boy before evolving into Tumi and ultimately adopting the moniker Stogie T.

“I can tell you what happened in Le Club in 1988 where Fat Boy (Stogie T) was performing there. I know you guys dont know who Fat Boy is, Fat Boy is Tumi who later on became Stogie T. He was Fat Boy at first that was his stage name,” he said. “He was still a poet, he didn’t start as a rapper, he became a rapper later on. Stogie was a poet, he became a rapper much later,” Rashid Kay added.

Rashid Kay‘s claims regarding Stogie T’s shift from being a poet to a rapper seem to have unsettled the latter. Stogie T took to Instagram to set the record straight, expressing his frustration with the misconceptions surrounding his artistic evolution in SA Hip Hop.

“Gentlemen, there’s a whole era of SA Hip Hop that pre-dates the club and clearly Rashid Kay wasn’t a part of it,” Stogie T said. “I met Rashid when he came to me and asked me to be in a documentary for SA Hip Hop that he was making i told him categorically no. He said; ‘dont worry dawg I’m not gonna misrepresent you’ and I said to him in his face I’m not worried about you misrepresenting me, I’m saying you cannot represent me and clearly I was right,” he added.

Addressing Zingah who was part of the conversation with Rashid Kay Stogie T said; “Zingah good luck on the YFM job bro we are all gonna need you to know the difference between an OG and a n**g that is just old, respectfully.”
