Ex-Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Michael Nkambule has urged fans to stop comparing Themba Zwane and Patrick Maswanganyi.
Since Maswanganyi joined to Orlando Pirates this season, some fans have tipped him to take over from Zwane in the national team.
The 25-year-old was recently selected for Bafana Bafana with coach Hugo Broos also noting the fact that he could succeed Mshishi.
Ex-Chiefs attacker Nkambule said Zwane and Maswanganyi should not be compared.
“The problem we are doing as people or as a country is to compare our players who are supposed to help the national team collectively.
And this is why even in life we end up not getting what we are supposed to get. There must be nothing to compare between Maswanganyi and Zwane, instead, we should support them both,” Nkambule told GOAL.
Ex-Chiefs player says both Zwane and Maswangany should be appreciated
”Maswanganyi has his style or his way of doing things and he just received his first Bafana call-up, let’s support him. He is there to make his name as Zwane did. So let’s stop comparing them because we are killing our national team.
Nkambule played for Amakhosi between 2008 and 2010 but failed to make an impact.
The former Chiefs attacker says someone will need to fill Zwane’s void when he retires but pressure should not be put on Maswanganyi.
”It’s not all about who replaces who but it’s about how we can help Bafana going forward. It’s true that when Zwane retires, we will need someone to fill the void, but we should never look for someone who plays like him because players will never be the same,” Nkambule said.
Bafana Bafana are currently taking part in the FIFA Series Friendlies. Broos’ men drew 1-1 with Andorra in their first match and will play host Algeria next week.
