Storm Isha: Power outages, flights rerouted and tornado watch 

Storm Isha has arrived in Ireland, bringing power outages, flight diversions and a tornado watch with it. 

A Red warning is in place in Galway and Mayo from 5pm this evening until 9pm, while Donegal is in the red from 9pm tonight to 1am on Monday. 

An Orange wind warning is also in place in Donegal, Galway and Mayo from 4pm today to 3am on Monday.  

A weather warning is also in place in the rest of the country from 5pm this evening to 2am tonight. 

Winds of over 100km/h have already been recorded in Cork and Mayo as the storm barrels into the country. 

Tornado & Storm Research Organisation TORRO have issued a tornado watch for Ireland as Storm Isha makes its way across the country.

Dozens of flights have been cancelled, delayed or diverted due to Storm Isha.

A total of 83 flights were cancelled by airlines at Dublin Airport as of 3pm on Sunday, including 44 incoming and 39 departing flights. 

High winds have also resulted in 21 “go-around” flights and 18 flights diverted to other airports. 

A plane arriving into Cork Airport from Amsterdam was diverted to Shannon, while a flight to Bristol was also cancelled. 

Both Shannon Airport and Belfast Airport has since closed the airport for diversions. 

Thousands of businesses and households are also reporting power outages in Galway, Cork and Kerry.

Dubin Fire Brigade has reported a shed was lifted 20 feet into the air over a wall while Carlow Fire Service reported a large tree falling down and blocking a road. 

Videos and images online show falling trees and debris around the country as Storm Isha barrels across the country.

The National Emergency Co-ordination Group met this morning and have warned people in the three counties going into a Red warning not to travel while the storm batters the country.

Rail users are being advised to expect delays on some western Iarnród Eireann services this evening as a lower speed limit will apply to all train services operating between Athlone and Galway, and between Athlone and Mayo from 5pm. 

People are advised to stay inside for the evening and to avoid making unneccessary journeys.
