Despite getting 27 goals from 30 attempts and etching her name in history by surpassing 8000 National League goals, Sunshine Girl Romelda Aiken-George and her team, the New South Wales Swifts ended up on the losing end in Saturday’s final round of regular season matches in the Suncorp Super Netball League in Australia.
The Swifts who have already secured their spot in the major semi-final, went down 57-60 to the Adelaide Thunderbirds with Jamaicans Shamera Sterling and Latanya Wilson, as the Thunderbirds reignited their top two hopes.
Meanwhile, the Collingwood Magpies, the team of Sunshine Girls Shimona Nelson and Jodi-Ann Ward, produced a captivating performance in their final Suncorp match, securing a hard-fought 65-62 win over defending champions West Coast Fever. Nelson had 51 goals from 55 attempts.
The Magpies have now withdrawn from the league, having earlier admitted its failure to run a viable netball programme.
