The faith-based film about Phil and Kay Robertson passed a box office record in recent days, and now it’s heading to home video.
The Blind (PG-13) became the top-grossing release in the history of distributor Fathom Events on Oct. 19 when it passed The Chosen Season 3: Episodes 1 & 2, which grossed $14.6 million in 2022. The Blind has now grossed $15.3 million, according to data at The Numbers.
The Blind will be released on digital home video on Nov. 3 and then on DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 14.
The film originally was scheduled to be in theaters for one week but was extended twice thanks to solid ticket sales. It soared into the box office top five on its first two weekends.
It tells the backstory to the life of Phil and Kay Robertson of Duck Dynasty.
“From the beginning, we knew how special this film was, and we were eager to support it in the best way possible,” Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events, said, according to Deadline. “Giving the film a longer theatrical run was a great decision for Fathom because of how important it was to bring this message to the fans — it resonated with so many people, which is why The Blind has had such staying power.”
The movie is set in the early days of their marriage, long before the fame of Duck Dynasty. The plot shows how Phil battled alcoholism and anger before finding Christ. At one point in the film, they separate.
Zach Dasher, one of the film’s producers and a nephew of Phil Robertson, said he was “blown away” by the movie’s success. Dasher made the comments on an edition of the Unashamed podcast.
The film sparked a movement of God on one college campus. On opening weekend, 11 students accepted Christ, and 30 students chose to be baptized in an outdoor baptistry at the University of Mount Olive after watching a screening. Students there worshiped until nearly midnight, according to a university news release.
