Hospitality Awards Social Responsability

The Hospitality Awards have been showcasing the best initiatives of our industry from 2000 and since 2001 social responsibility has been a category. Many initiatives have been awarded, let’s have a look at the previous winners while waiting for the 2023 finalists and winner. Insitut Lyfe will hand over the trophy to an impactful initiative.

Subscribe to Hospitality ON and gain access to the ceremony, a unique moment to benchmark the hospitality industry, network, and enjoy a wonderful buffet at the InterContinental Paris Le Grand Hotel.

Here are some of the previous winners and finalists.

IHG Hotels & Resorts, the Shelter in a Storm initiative

When disasters strike, people naturally seek refuge in hotels. This is a key role of hotels in society, and one that is vitally important to the communities in which they operate. “IHG’s ‘The Shelter in a Storm’ builds on our long history of supporting local communities in times of need.

Our strategic partnership with CARE (one of the world’s leading relief and development non-profit organisations) allows us to tap into deep disaster expertise and helps us to find appropriate partners in the area when disaster strikes.

The IHG Shelter in a Storm programme is funded by the IHG Shelter Fund which enables us to react as soon as a disaster strikes, ensuring that we can provide vital help straight away. The fund is built through fundraising activities in our hotels and offices throughout the year.

SUNCARE addresses sustainability initiatives as per the triple-bottom line approach of environmental, social and financial responsibilities by finding innovative ways to do more with less.

In an age of vanishing resources and extreme polarization, it seemed essential to think about our greater purpose. Times like these present an opportunity to use our scale and reach to act as a positive force for change―and we intend to leverage our power to build a better world.

Deeply embedded within our DNA is a desire to move the world forward and create meaningful change within our own company and the communities we serve.

Zero Food Waste, launched by LUX* Le Morne

Mauritius in as innovative project to eliminate food waste in all Mauritian hotels with an ethical, human, environmental and economic aspect.

A third of the food in the world produced for human consumption goes to waste and tourism is one of the main contributors to this phenomenon. Eliminating food waste is therefore a key priority for LUX* Le Morne, particularly as hundreds of Mauritian children go hungry every day and food waste is a leading source of pollution. These concerns are behind the creation of our large-scale project, ZERO FOOD WASTE.

IHG Hotels & Resorts, the Future of Local

In a big city it’s easy to look the other way. How often have you walked past an overflowing bin? A hungry homeless person? Or rushed to get out of the smog… It’s sad and distressing, but what can you do about it? It’s not your problem. But what if your business is local?

Zanzibar: a better life for Kairo Village

This project represents the commitment to CSR of Meliá, as a strategic lever for creating shared value for Zanzibar, by strengthening the local community through the implementation of its Global Model in a hotel.

While tourism in Zanzibar has experienced rapid expansion in the last decade, this has not been accompanied by pro-poor growth. Although tourism has brought benefits -such as foreign exchange income, employment opportunities, and infrastructure development -it has also caused negative impacts, including social problems, environmental degradation, and conflicts between investors and local communities regarding resource exploitation.

The aim of Meliá is implementing its Global CSR Model in the Meliá Zanzibar surroundings is to contribute to reduce the impact on poverty, improving the employability of young local people and, in general, to increase the local quality of life by making the local community to take the advantage of the benefits generated by the increasing industry of tourism.

Meliá Roma Aurelia Antica

Property of the Meliá Hotels International Group, has launched a social campaign to raise awareness on disability and the working environment, demonstrating that different abilities can actively contribute in the daily work and inspire, with this pioneering concept, colleagues in Tourism Industry, Companies and Enterprises that want contribute to the “Common Good” in a practice and concrete way.

P&V-Center Parcs – Villages Nature® Paris – towards a 0 carbon destination

“Less carbon for better tourism” is the ambition of Village Nature Paris: an innovative destination offering a unique experience of sustainable tourism.

NH Hotel Group, Hotel with a Heart

‘Hotels with a Heart’ aims to offer accommodation to children suffering from an illness who have to travel to a hospital far from home.

Inspired by two visionaries, Paul Bocuse and Gérard Pélisson, Institut Lyfe (formerly Institut Paul Bocuse) was born from passion: a passion for our professions and a passion for conveying knowledge to future generations. We pass on our craft with the same objective of elegantly transmitting exceptional know-how and the bold spirit needed to conquer numerous professional horizons, providing the opportunity – for everyone – to train in rich, human and exciting professions.

Since 1990, we have been custodians of French know-how, cultural heritage and the art of hospitality at their highest levels of excellence, nourished by a unique ecosystem within the Grandes Ecoles higher education panorama.
