Despite the 12 year wait, Olympian Kaliese Carter, formerly Spencer, says she is still thrilled about being able to collect her bronze medal from the 2012 London Olympic Games in Paris this summer.
The Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) is pleased it was able to play a role in the reallocation of medals for two other Jamaicans as well as its sponsorship of athletes looking to qualify for Paris.
A then 25 year old Spencer, now Carter, crossed the line 4th in 53.66 seconds in the final of the women’s 400 metre hurdles prior to the disqualification of Russain winner Natalya Antyukh for doping.
Sprinter Beverly McDonald is also in line to collect her bronze medal from the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney along with long jumper Chelsea Hammond who was upgraded to bronze from the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
The medal reallocation, will take place on August 9 at Champions Park at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.
High jumper Christophe Bryan along with triple jumper Shaneika Ricketts, 400m hurdler Malik James-King, discus/shot putter Samantha Hall and hammer thrower Nyoka Clunis are benefitting from $6 million worth of scholarships by the JOA towards their Olympic pursuits.
