JOHANNESBURG – State prosecutor Freddy Matabane, police investigating officer Lucky Thabethe and fraud suspect Daniel Benjamin have been granted R5,000 bail each by the Johannesburg magistrate’s court.
The trio is facing corruption charges.
It’s alleged that Benjamin defrauded a company to the tune of R6.3-million.
The state accuses Matabane and Thabethe of meeting Benjamin at a nature reserve, weeks after the case was dismissed, because Matabane declined to prosecute.
The suspects have also been ordered to hand over their travel documents.
The case is expected to continue in March next year.
NPA spokesperson Phindi Louw-Mjonondwane says the authority is tackling corruption within its own ranks head on.
