Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo has described the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in the feud between Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as a “mere window dressing.”
On Friday, Mr Tinubu called a meeting of the political actors in Ondo to resolve the political feud between Messrs Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa.
In a statement obtained on Sunday, the PDP said Mr Tinubu’s intervention might not see the light of the day, considering past intervention by the party’s leadership.
The opposition party, in the statement signed by its spokesman, Kennedy Peretei, said the crisis was not yet “Uhuru” in as much as Mr Akeredolu is still incapacitated and refused to resume office.
“Let us pray that the presidential intervention will not go the way of the Bello Masari Reconciliation Committee set up by APC national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje. After several trips to Abuja at taxpayers’ expense, both parties returned to court despite promises to withdraw all cases.
“Again, major stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC), the leadership of the Ondo State House of Assembly and Ondo State government were at the Villa to iron out their intractable differences.
“From what we have read about the outcome, Tinubu’s intervention is a mere window dressing. Out of respect for his office, the impeachment of the deputy governor will no longer see daylight, but as long as Akeredolu remains in hiding, it is not yet Uhuru; the cat and mouse race will still continue. The siege is not yet over,” the statement read in part.
Mr Tinubu had, during the meeting, asked the loyalists of the governor and his deputy to bury the hatchet in the interest of peace in the state.
The president also declared that the existing status quo in the state’s cabinet remained despite Mr Akeredolu’s continued ill health.
