Husband and Wife Duo to Open the Gourmet Toast and Juice Bar Steps from University of Michigan
The Ann Arbor location will be helmed by husband and wife duo, Candace and Austin Kovar. The new 1293 sq. ft. location will feature indoor and outdoor seating and is located centrally to restaurants and bars including Haymaker Public House, Mash, Blue Nile Ethiopian, and is a short walk to the University of Michigan campus. The franchisees are long-time Michiganders, who met while both were completing their masters in Psychology and had their first date in Ann Arbor. Candace comes from a long line of restaurateurs who owned several Jet’s Pizza locations but when investing in her own restaurant venture, felt that the Toastique brand aligned with her passion for healthy eats and for supporting strong-minded women entrepreneurs.
“My entrepreneurial spirit comes from my mother who taught me what it takes to run a successful business. After welcoming our daughter during the pandemic, I was on the hunt to find a business that we could grow for her in hopes of instilling within her the same outlook and spirit,” said Candace Kovar, franchisee and owner of Toastique Ann Arbor. “We saw Toastique’s growth across the country and after meeting the team behind it all, we discovered how well it aligned with my values of eating healthy, fresh food and investing in wellness. It was a ‘ding ding ding’ moment of finding the perfect fit for our family and our hometown! Ann Arbor is a beautiful, diverse community and I’m confident that they are going to love Toastique.”
Highlights of the menu include the Avocado Smash (avocado with watermelon radish, marinated tomatoes, chili oil, microgreens on multigrain toast), PB Crunch (honey roasted peanut butter, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, berry jam, granola, peanuts, honey drizzle, and mint on walnut raisin toast), and the Tomato Burrata (herbed ricotta, pesto, tomatoes, burrata, basil, olive oil, balsamic glaze on Rustico toast). Guests can also enjoy freshly blended smoothies, such as the SuperFruit (acai, strawberry, banana, blueberry, apple juice) and iced collagen lattes including the Beet Latte (vital proteins collagen, cold-pressed recharge juice, almond milk).
Originating in 2018 in Washington, D.C., Toastique has garnered national acclaim for its fresh and artistic approach to crafting exquisite food grounded in paying homage to the natural beauty and simplicity found in locally sourced ingredients. Employing fresh produce and curating unique, thoughtful flavor combinations, Toastique has cultivated a rich menu of enticing and health-conscious toasts, smoothies, cold-pressed juices, and more.
Once open, the Ann Arbor location will be open from 7am-5pm Monday through Sunday. To stay up to date with Toastique news and announcements, visit the website at Toastique.com, follow the brand on Instagram @toastique and on Facebook at @toastiqueannarbor.
About Toastique
Toastique, a gourmet toast franchise founded in 2018 by former D1 collegiate cheerleader Brianna Keefe, believes healthy food should be simple to understand and appreciate, easy to enjoy, and above all, accessible to everyone. With a unique menu that includes toast-focused creations, all-natural smoothies, cold-pressed juices and açaí bowls, Toastique is truly unlike any other health-focused franchise on earth. Keefe franchised the concept and has expanded with locations in D.C., Colorado, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, Utah Texas and Virginia, with more franchise units signed and in development across the country. Keefe was recently featured on Forbes 30 Under 30 Food & Drink (2022). More information on Toastique can be found at Toastique.com and Instagram @toastique.
