Politicians from ActionSA escape abduction after Hilux hijacking in Olievenhoutbosch

ActionSA’s Gauteng chairperson, Funzi Ngobeni, and Youth leader, Hluphi Gafane, managed to survive a kidnapping incident after the Toyota Hilux they were travelling in was hijacked in Olievenhoutbosch, Centurion, on Tuesday evening.

According to IOL, around 8 pm, the duo was hijacked and compelled into their vehicle. They were discovered in Benoni approximately four hours later, around midnight, and fortunately, according to police reports, they did not sustain any physical injuries.

Upon receiving notification of the disappearance of the ActionSA members, the South African Police Service (SAPS) Tracing Team collaborated with Organised Crime Investigation, along with Matrix Vehicle Tracking and a Netstar helicopter, to locate the victims.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) stated in a Wednesday morning statement that investigations are ongoing to locate both the vehicle and the suspects involved.

“I would like to thank South Africans for their concern and prayers last night. Fortunately, both Hluphi and I are safe after a harrowing experience,” Ngobeni said in a statement on Facebook on Wednesday morning.

“I’ll be spending time with my family this morning before returning to work later today.”

The ActionSA political party expressed profound gratitude for the immense support shown by South Africans following the news of their members’ disappearance on Tuesday evening.

A few weeks ago police apprehended three individuals in Jeppe, Johannesburg, in connection with hijacking, extortion, and possession of unlicensed firearms.

The victim of a hijacking informed the police that the perpetrators had also requested R1 000 to return his driver’s license, which he complied with and paid.

Police reported that after two days, the victim received a call from the suspects, who demanded R80 000 in exchange for releasing his vehicle.
