Beef isn’t available in most Indian states as slaughtering of cows is banned.
Travel YouTuber Dale Philip’s fans were left baffled after he got his hands on beef biryani in India’s Old Delhi.
This is because cows are believed to be sacred in Hinduism, the religion followed by the majority of the Indian population.
However, Philip mentioned in his video’s description that as the area is home to majority of Muslim, there is beef available. However, he clarified that “due to local laws the beef is not from cows. Instead, buffalo meat is used and is named as ‘beef'”
When one thinks of India, typical dishes like daal chawal (lentil curry over rice) and pav bhaji (spicy curry of mixed vegetables served with soft buttered buns) spring to mind.
However, one YouTuber discovered beef biryani (spicy rice with beef) while visiting one of India’s old cities.
In a recent vlog, with the title “India is NOT for beginners” published on his YouTube channel, Scottish travel vlogger Dale Philip took his subscribers on a trip to India.
In the vlog, Philip was exploring Old Delhi, an area in the Central Delhi district of Delhi, India.
Philip, 29, ended up visiting the Chor Bazaar (Thieves Market) located near Jama Masjid, which is one of the biggest and most popular mosques in the city, where he was invited by a street food vendor to try out his beef biryani.
He tasted the biryani and remarked that the rice was “salty and flavourful” while the meat was “tender”.
While he enjoyed the delicacy, it surpised viewers because beef is not sold in most Indian states as slaughtering of cows is banned in some areas.
This is because cows are believed to be sacred in Hinduism, the religion followed by the majority of the Indian population.
