According to a new Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll, former President Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden by six points in a hypothetical rematch for the seat of the presidency.
The poll found that 45 percent of respondents said they would vote for Trump for president if the election were held today. Thirty-nine percent of respondents said they would vote for Biden, and 15 percent said they were unsure which of the two candidates they would vote for.
As reported by The Hill, the results were slightly different from the results of another Harvard CAPS-Harris poll conducted in May that found that 47 percent would vote for Trump and 40 percent would vote for Biden.
The latest poll also found that a large majority of Republicans would vote for Trump (86 percent), and a large majority of Democrats would vote for Biden (77 percent).
“The indictment of former [President Trump] has [had] no impact on his lead against Biden, whose job rating remains at 43 percent,” Mark Penn, the co-director of the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll, explained in a statement.
Respondents were also asked about a hypothetical matchup between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and President Biden in the 2024 election. The results showed that DeSantis has a slight edge over Biden, with 41 percent saying they would vote for DeSantis and 40 percent saying they would choose Biden.
Trump is currently considered the leading presidential candidate for the GOP. DeSantis often polls in second place. So far, thirteen Republicans have joined the presidential primary, leading many to question whether the GOP can agree on an alternative candidate to Trump.
The Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll, which was conducted between June 14 and June 15, surveyed 2,090 respondents. The Center for American Political Studies at Harvard University and the Harris Poll collaborated in the poll.
The survey is an online sample taken from the Harris Panel and is weighted to represent known demographics.
