TSTT gets two new directors

Two new directors have been appointed to telecoms provider TSTT, marking another change in the composition of the company’s board.

The new directors are president of the Human Resource Management Association of T&T Cavelle Joseph-St Omer and group marketing manager of Xtra Foods Supermarket Angelo Daniel Austin.

On March 14, the term of office of eight TSTT directors came to an end, pursuant to Section 64(1)(b) of the Securities Act, 2012.

Ingrid Lashley, Nicole De Freitas, Howard Dottin and Judith Sobion were not reappointed to the TSTT board, while Sean Roach, Wendell Berkley, Annalean Inniss and Anthony Peyson retained their positions.

The appointment of Joseph-St Omer and Austin takes the number of directors on the TSTT board to six.

Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonzales yesterday confirmed there were changes to the TSTT board, but did not disclose any other information on the members.

Speaking to the Express on a WhatsApp call, Gonzales said, “(I have) no thoughts really. It’s the decision of the Cabinet, so you know, Cabinet meets and we deliberate on matters before us and of course, I’m not at liberty to disclose confidential discussions on the Cabinet. But just to confirm that there have been some changes made to the board’s composition.”

Gonzales said he is looking forward to the TSTT board working with the Government.

“I am looking forward to the new members taking up their position and working with the Government of T&T and the Ministry of Public Utilities, especially as we face the challenges of cybersecurity in T&T and all over the world.

“Just to make sure that, you know, TSTT continues to work with all of its experts and all of its stakeholders to ensure that its systems are hardened sufficiently to protect the data of all its customers, and to ensure that it remains robust and resilient as it relates to cyberattacks,” he said.

“So this is some of the main challenges that we are facing in the telecommunications sector, as a matter of fact, all over, but it’s particularly in the telecommunications sector, so I am looking forward to the board continuing its work and its collaboration with all of its stakeholders, so that it can regain the public’s trust on this matter of cybersecurity.”

Asked about her appointment yesterday, Joseph-St Omer said she could not confirm or give a comment because a meeting had not been held with TSTT.

“I don’t know the protocols just yet. I have not met with anyone in the organisation, nothing. I, too, heard myself, so it wouldn’t be a professional position for me to take.”

Also contacted for comment, Austin said he was in the middle of a meeting and would take the call at a later time. Calls to his cellphone later yesterday were not immediately returned.

TSTT chairman Sean Roach could not be reached for comment.
