Exit signs at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel got a much-needed facelift to help steer cross-border travellers entering Windsor.
The signboards were upgraded nearly three weeks ago, incorporating designs from the City of Windsor, and made possible through a $750 contribution from the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association.

“There’s a saying out there that you should never judge a book by its cover,” said downtown’s city councillor Renaldo Agostino. “I like to say the exact opposite. I think people do judge a book by its cover. When you look at that sign, if you’re coming from Detroit, that’s our cover. And it was absolutely disgusting.”

He could not specify the duration of the previous signs.
Now the new signage points travellers in the direction of Caesar’s Windsor, the riverfront, downtown dining and shopping and more.
Agostino said the signboards are temporary, until a more permanent, elaborate display is erected to welcome visitors to the city.
“We’re hoping to switch to something more modern with an LED,” he said. “We want to bring back the shine of downtown Windsor. So we’re going to be replacing it with something very extravagant, hopefully, as soon as we can.
“I know it’s it’s just a small thing, but every small thing counts.”
