The UAE Embassy in a gesture of goodwill and cultural exchange, and bringing together Delhi’s diplomatic community hosted its annual Iftar in the capital on Thursday (Mar 21). The event, attended by a diverse array of foreign envoys, and officials from the Indian government has become a significant fixture on the diplomatic calendar.
“We want to make sure that this becomes an annual event that people look forward to,” remarked UAE Ambassador Dr Abdulnasser Alshaali to WION.
He expressed his happiness at observing other diplomatic missions hosting their own iftars. Ambassador Alshaali emphasised the importance of Ramadan as a holy month uniting people globally in fasting, prayer, and forgiveness.
“What we are really trying to do is to have it on the calendar, to promote the values that UAE, India share in common – peace, harmony, and brotherhood,” he added.

Notably, the attendance of high-ranking officials from the Indian government like Aseem Mahajan, Joint Secretary of the Gulf Division, and Anshuman Gaur, Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of External Affairs underscored the significance of the UAE-India bilateral relationship.

Ambassador Alshaali reiterated the strategic importance of the relationship between India and the UAE, and emphasised on the need of sustaining momentum and high-level engagements in order to ensure the continued strengthening of ties.
“High-level visits make sure everyone is on their toes,” he remarked, highlighting the role of reciprocal visits in maintaining bilateral cooperation and fostering mutual understanding. PM Modi visited the country in February this year.
Beyond the exchange of pleasantries and gastronomic delights, UAE’s Iftar diplomacy in Delhi with each passing year has grown in size and influence.
