MANILA, Philippines — Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian on Monday urged senior citizens to get free anti-pneumonia shots, saying the disease is one of the leading causes of mortality among the elderly.
“I am urging our senior citizens, who must have their anti-pneumonia shots, to take advantage of the free vaccine roll-out that is being initiated by the local government,” the mayor said.
The VCVaxPlus’ Project: Vaccination at the Parks program aims to improve accessibility and give free vaccines to protect the city’s senior citizens.

Gatchalian told The Manila Times (TMT) that senior citizens ages 60 years and above were vaccinated in batches from June 3 to 7 and June 10 – 14, 2024.
He said the city government decided to set more schedules — June 17–21 at Polo Park, and June 24–28 at People’s Park — in order to accommodate more elderly.

Those who wish to get the free shots should present their identification card, medical clearance (for those with comorbidities), and pneumonia vaccine card, if any.
“This vaccination drive attests to the commitment of the local administration to providing inclusive, quality healthcare for every member of the ‘Pamilyang Valenzuelano’ and their welfare is our utmost priority,” Gatchalian said.
